Provenance Laboratories was founded in 2017 in Los Angeles, CA, USA with the goal of solving authenticity and provenance challenges for high value goods. Technological innovations in both hardware and software are derived from fundamental and applied research.

Provenance Laboratories is driven by a team with experience in nondestructive evaluation, robotics, algorithms, and manufacturing processes. The company has multiple granted patents on novel authentication methods.

Provenance Laboratories is backed by committed investors with decades of experience and a multitude of successful exits. The advisory board has deep expertise in authenticity, artificial intelligence, and business development of art, watches, and collectibles.

Leadership Team

Josh Bishop-Moser, CEO

Josh Bishop-Moser
Chief Executive Officer

Josh Bishop-Moser is a seasoned researcher, engineer, and leader with experience spanning authentication, nondestructive evaluation, robotics, and technology forecasting. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering.

Previously, Josh was the Principal Researcher for MForesight, a federal think tank focused on forecasting the future of manufacturing technologies and advising on federal manufacturing policy. Key reports and federal policy impact include nondestructive evaluation, materials engineering, process automation, and IT infrastructure. Josh concurrently served in consulting and advisory roles for multiple technology companies and institutions. Prior to MForesight, Josh built a career in advanced robotics and technology assessment.

Deepak Rangaswami
Chief Business Officer

Deepak Rangaswami is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of experience at the intersection of commerce, technology, and innovation, with deep expertise in collectibles and authentication.

Most recently, as General Manager and Senior Director at eBay, he led the company’s multi-billion-dollar U.S. Collectibles business, reversing market share decline and driving double-digit growth through platform innovation and strategic partnerships.

Deepak was a key architect behind eBay’s flagship trust and safety initiatives, including Authenticity Guarantee, Vault, and Seamless Grading for trading cards. He helped lead the acquisition of Goldin, a premier collectibles auction house, and forged a strategic partnership with Collectors/PSA to offer an integrated experience for grading, storing, and selling high-end collectibles. He also helped lead the expansion of authentication services across luxury categories (watches, handbags, sneakers & jewelry) and trading cards, into five countries.

Earlier, Deepak held leadership roles in strategic partnerships, and innovation at eBay—including launching eBay Live, the company’s interactive live commerce platform. Prior to eBay, he held business development and engineering roles at Corventis (acquired by Medtronic) and St. Jude Medical respectively.

He also recently served on the Board of Directors at COMC, a leading sports trading card marketplace, supporting growth strategy and organizational transformation.

Deepak holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, along with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering.

Brian Marriott

Brian Marriott is an accomplished operations executive with over 25 years of experience building and scaling high-performance organizations across eCommerce, retail, and global logistics.

Most recently, as Director of Global Authentication Operations at eBay, he led the company’s international network of authentication facilities spanning six countries. Under his leadership, eBay optimized throughput, implemented automation and quality control enhancements, and delivered significant cost savings while improving customer experience and speed to market.

Prior to eBay, Brian held senior leadership roles at The RealReal, Home Shopping Network, and Live Love Polish, where he built end-to-end operational infrastructures, led fulfillment and customer care transformation initiatives, and consistently drove measurable gains in efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction.

Brian is known for his analytical approach, collaborative leadership style, and track record of translating operational complexity into scalable, efficient systems that empower growth and innovation.

James Hendy is a seasoned executive with over 20 years of global leadership experience spanning authentication technology, fine art logistics, and international auctioneering.

Previously, James was the Global General Manager of Authentication at eBay, where he spearheaded the development and launch of the company’s groundbreaking Authenticity Guarantee and Vault programs. Under his leadership, eBay introduced authentication services across luxury watches, handbags, sneakers, jewelry, and trading cards, expanding these initiatives to five countries. His work was instrumental in re-establishing eBay as a trusted marketplace, driving value for buyers and sellers in key categories.

Before eBay, James built a distinguished career in the international fine art and auction industry, holding senior executive roles across three continents. He served as Chief Operating Officer for Bonhams U.S., CEO of Bonhams Australia, and began his career as an antique furniture appraiser and general valuer in the UK.

James’s unique blend of leadership, strategic vision, industry knowledge and operational expertise has driven success across diverse industries, making him a valuable advisor for companies at the intersection of authentication technology and commerce.

Kevin Davis, Advisory Board Member

Kevin Davis is an accomplished technology executive with deep experience at the intersection of artificial intelligence, business strategy, and venture investment. He is Head of Artificial General Intelligence: Information at Amazon.

In this role, Kevin oversees a global team of product managers, data scientists, content operations specialists, and Amazon Scholars. He leads initiatives in knowledge categorization, personalization, content quality, and product development that shape the company’s AGI roadmap worldwide. He also serves as Site Lead for Amazon’s Santa Barbara office, representing the company regionally and fostering collaboration with the broader innovation ecosystem.

Previously, Kevin was Vice President at Graphiq, a data aggregation and visualization company acquired by Amazon in 2017. He led teams across revenue operations, publishing, ad technology, and strategy, helping scale the business and deliver data-driven insights to millions of users. Earlier in his career, he advised clients on growth strategy and operational improvement at Bain & Company and contributed to systems testing for advanced aerospace programs at Lockheed Martin.

Beyond his corporate career, Kevin is an active investor, advisor, and board member. He serves as Board Chair of REACH, sits on the Council of Coastal Intelligence, and is a Limited Partner with ScOp Venture Capital and Santa Barbara Venture Partners, backing early-stage companies in AI, health, fintech, and cybersecurity.

Kevin holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on robotics from the University of California, Berkeley, and is an Eagle Scout.
